Policies and Details

Make Up policy:

Students may request make-up lessons for illness as long as there is notification prior to the lesson.  Lessons that need to be rescheduled due to a schedule conflict can be done online at least 24 hours in advance.  Make-up lessons that are not scheduled online or that need a special date or time not listed on the website should be arranged directly with the teacher. Absences without teacher notification will be forfeited.

Recommended practice 5-6 days per week:

Primer book: 5–10 minutes

Book 1: 10-15 minutes

Book 2a / 2b: 15-20 minutes

Book 3a / 3b:  15-20 minutes

Book 4 / 5:  20-30 minutes

Remember, practicing consistently for a shorter amount of time will get a student further than practicing once or twice for a long time.

Summer Flex Schedule:

Students are able to schedule a minimum of 2 individual lessons per month rather than paying tuition in the summer. Scheduling is done on a lesson-by-lesson basis, rather than a set time and day each week.

If a family is not able to complete all their lessons in a month, it can carry over, however, all lessons would need to be used by the end of August before the next academic year begins.

It is not recommended to take the entire summer off of lessons due to learning loss.  Completely taking off summers may take up to 3 months to return the student to previous reading and coordination levels, and some skills can potentially take even longer than that to regain.  It is therefore best practice to do at least 2 lessons a month to maintain at a minimum.  Many students choose to continue weekly and use the summer to make rapid progress as they have more time and scheduling flexibility to practice. Unfortunately, students who skip months in the summer are not guaranteed a spot upon return in the fall.

Returning in the fall:

Students will be given a worksheet in July to fill out and return in order to communicate studio hours, and to state their availability for the upcoming school year. Priority will be given to students who would like to keep their spots from the previous year. It is the goal to help everyone find a spot in the schedule that fits their lives and allows all students to continue on, regardless of busy schedules.
